APAIE’s Building Capacity in International Higher Education workshop in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 27 to 29 October, brought together higher education leaders and practitioners from across the region to explore how global collaboration can thrive while respecting local culture and context.
Hosted by Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), the event featured engaging discussions and interactive sessions on digital transformation, transnational education, and partnership development. Highlights included dynamic facilitation, strategic insights into international collaboration, and thought-provoking presentations by Prof. Venky Shankararaman, Prof. Shanton Chang, Associate Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Dr. Ir. Dwita Hida Rahmi, Dr. Rozilini Mary Fernandez-Chung, Dr. John Bolton, Marnie Watson, Guy Perring, Rahmat Fadhli, Louise Kinnaird, and Lucinda Malgas.
Participants also enjoyed cultural immersion experiences, including a visit to the Borobudur Temple and campus tours of UII and UGM, deepening reflections on how internationalisation can be both globally connected and locally grounded.
