Professor and Vice President for International Affairs and International Fundraising at Waseda University. He has been serving as director of the Institute of Japan-U.S. Studies since 2008. He has been an APAIE director since 2018.
Received Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1989. Worked at International Development Center of Japan (IDCJ) as economist for 1989-1991. Joined the faculty of Waseda University in 1993 after serving for the faculty at Yokohama City University for 1991-1993.
