Key takeaways from APAIE 2024

We continue to strive to improve our sustainability practices. Have a look...

APAIE is committed to promoting a culture of sustainability within the organisation by managing our operations and events in a manner that minimises our environmental and ecological footprint.

The 2024 conference theme, “Collaborating for sustainable impact: partnerships across the Asia Pacific” included notions of environmental sustainability.

APAIE is also a signatory to the Climate Action Network of International Educators (CANIE) Accord.

Thank you for doing your part! We championed and noticed the following:

  • the brilliant keynote address by Michael Wear, Managing Director of Tidal Moon and Mulgana traditional owner, which demonstrated how we are all custodians of the Earth
  • an incredible, hope-inducing session on the many environmental initiatives taking place in Western Australia (WA) as well as the need to include Indigenous perspectives into environmental sustainability by WA’s Chief Scientist, Professor Klinken
  • attending concurrent sessions to learn more about minimising your carbon footprint
  • taking heed of information to enable individuals and organisations to adopt sustainable practices
  • using digital resources instead of relying on printed materials where feasible
  • trying to offset your carbon emissions for your plane travel in a variety of ways
  • walking or catching public transport to and from the Convention Centre
  • using the refillable water bottles that were provided at water stations
  • using the recyclable eating utensils (without complaining!)

Let’s keep up the good work and commit to doing the same and even more in 2025.
