Aki TAKADA

Vice President (Director of Refugee Education), Japan ICU Foundation, Refugee Education Japan

Aki is the Vice President of Japan ICU Foundation (JICUF), a public charity in New York, USA, and the Director of Refugee Education Japan, JICUF’s initiative to broaden educational opportunities for students with refugee backgrounds in Japan. In 2017, Aki played a key role in establishing the Syrian Scholars Initiative (SSI), a scholarship program for Syrian refugees at International Christian University (ICU) in Tokyo. In 2022, she contributed to the creation of the Japan-Ukraine University Pathways (JUUP) program, a scholarship program for Ukrainian refugees across 16 universities in Japan. In 2024, JUUP developed into Japan Education Pathways (JEP) which supports refugee students of multiple nationalities. She holds master’s degrees from ICU and the University of Oxford.
