Academic Research Paper Submissions

Please note: This page is for Academic Research Paper Submissions for Emerging Scholars. For all other proposal types please submit through the Proposal Submissions page.

Due to the success of this initiative in 2025, APAIE will again be inviting researchers to submit research papers for consideration.

It is part of APAIE’s goals to develop:

  • a research stream for presentations at APAIE conferences,
  • a community of International Education Researchers in the Asia-Pacific region, who are interested in conducting research in the region,
  •  a group of experts to assist with the review papers for APAIE conference presentations.

Emerging Scholars i.e. Doctoral Candidates and Early Career Researchers (ECR) who have completed their Doctoral Degree in the last 5 years are encouraged to submit their work.

Submissions Overview

Moderators
APAIE will provide moderators. Do not include a moderator/facilitator in your submission.
Registration
Research Paper presenters are entitled to register at the speaker rate.

Key Elements

The Academic Research Paper submission process is a rigorous academic process and it is important to understand the below key elements and wider guidelines before submitting your work.

  • Research Paper submissions will comprise of a two step submission of an abstract and full paper.
  • Research Paper submissions must utilise the provided full paper template.
  • Research Papers will be subject to a double-blind review by a panel of peer researchers.
  • Accepted Research Papers will be part of the official APAIE 2026 program, APAIE Referred Proceedings and considered for leading Journals in related areas.
  • Research Papers can be submitted either as Research in Progress or Full Research papers.

Research Tracks

Academic Research Papers can be submitted under the following Research Tracks of International Education:

  • Transnational Education – Research that focuses on the transnational education models in the Asia Pacific Region.
  • International Student Experience – Focusing on the International Student Experiences, including digital experiences of students (with a particular focus on Asia, Latin America and Pacific Islands).
  • Internationalisation of Curriculum – Research exploring the internationalisation of curriculum in Higher Education, and Internationalisation at Home. This also includes research on aspects of digital and online international education.
  • International Education Policies – Focusing on the International Education Policies in Asia, the Pacific Islands, and Latin America.
  • Student Mobility – Research on student mobility programs across Asia-Pacific, including virtual mobility, COIL, short-term and longer term mobility, and international internships.

Paper Categories

Two types of Research Papers are available:

  1. Research in Progress Paper: include conceptual papers, literature reviews and proposition development papers of high quality and aim to provide contributions to the field of research. These papers are required to be 5,000 words, including Title, Abstract and References. 
  2. Full Research Paper: include papers that report on full research projects which include clear results, discussions, and implications that provide a significant contribution to the field. These papers are required to be 8,000 words, including Title, Abstract and References.
