Fern Sakamoto is an Associate Professor at Nanzan University in Japan, where she serves as Vice-Director of the Center for Global Strategies. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Macquarie University and conducts research related to global competence education in Japan. She is currently working on projects investigating the post-study abroad experiences of students at Japanese universities, and the efficacy of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) to foster global and intercultural competence in students.
