Founded by the Hong Kong Government in 1989, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) has evolved into a vibrant, well-rounded, comprehensive university with education, research, and service to society as its three core pillars.
HKMU is the only self-financed university in Hong Kong with self-accrediting authority. This allows us to independently design, approve, and accredit our courses and programmes without external approval. This unique status makes us the most flexible university in Hong Kong, enabling us to respond swiftly to market trends and industry needs. As a result, the Hong Kong SAR Government designated HKMU as the first university of applied sciences (UAS) in Hong Kong in March 2024.
