15E – Rethinking Graduate Outcomes and Talent Flows in APAC

09:30 - 10:15 24/03/27 ROOM MY 11

Abstract

This session explores how international student mobility translates into long-term talent and societal impact across the region.

Drawing on new research by Cambridge English and Studyportals, it reframes international students not only as a source of tuition, but as vital contributors to talent, outcomes, and long-term societal impact.

We show where students go after studying abroad—whether they return home, stay, or move to another country—and how this compares to other regions.

In some countries, many students return home after studying abroad. In others, many stay or move internationally. These patterns shape how talent flows and how countries build their workforce.

We also connect these trends to changes in higher education and skills demand, including the growing focus on AI in some parts of the region.

By combining clear data with regional insights, this session offers a grounded view of how APAC fits into global talent flows and what this means for institutions and policymakers.
