Abstract
In this interactive workshop participants will explore, discuss and debate core principles and processes of internationalisation of the formal and co-curriculum (IoC) with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region. After a brief introduction of the foundational principles and processes of IoC and some if its challenges and opportunities the workshop will zoom in on insights from recent research and case studies of IoC in action in the Asia-Pacific region and the Global South more generally. Interactive roundtable discussions will also explore how participants might apply learnings from the workshop to prepare all/more students in their institutions as human, social and economic beings in today’s interconnected and fractured world. The principal aim of the workshop is to stimulate participants to generate ideas and tools to advance IoC in their context, regardless of their prior knowledge or level of experience in the field.
Learning Objectives
- Describe contextual factors relevant to IoC in HE institutions in the Asia-Pacific region
- Compare rationales, goals and approaches to IoC in different contexts (including their own)
- Identify key actors, resources and other enablers of IoC in their institution and in the broader regional and global context
- Share ideas for approaching IoC as action research (iterative, reflective practice) in own context

- Academic staff engaged in research and/or teaching with an interest in IoC, IaH, TNE, decolonisation of the curriculum, inclusive pedagogies
- Professional developers supporting course design and quality improvement in teaching and learning through internationalisation
- Student services staff interested in internationalisation including TN programs, teaching international students and internationalisation of the informal/co-curriculum
- International Office staff working with academic and administrative staff to advance internationalisation
