Future Authors Workshop: Journal of Studies in International Education (JSIE)

Abstract

The Journal of Studies in International Education (JSIE) celebrates its 30th Anniversary in 2027 and will be marking the occasion at APAIE 2027, including through this seminar.

This workshop commences by providing background on the scope and editorial vision of JSIE. Owned by a consortia partnership of international education associations, including APAIE, JSIE truly is ‘our journal’. These organisations have partnered for nearly 30 years to establish and manage JSIE, which has become a premiere academic journal for international education leaders, administrators, educators, researchers and policymakers.

Two JSIE Editors will then present ‘Editors’ Picks’, that is recently-published articles which are grounded in practice and relevant to APAIE attendees, particularly emerging researchers.

Participants will then be introduced to a process for ‘pitching’ an article to JSIE.

After lunch, participants will ‘workshop’ an article pitch for JSIE in small groups and receive live, interactive feedback from current JSIE Editors as well as from their peers.

The goal is for JSIE to reach new authors who are attending APAIE 2027, either in the researchers stream or as regular delegates. There will also be opportunities for workshop participates to meet and network with each other as well as to form meaningful connections with members of JSIE’s Manager and Editors.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Learn more about JSIE including its mission, scope and shared ownership by international education associations from around the world, including APAIE. The first part of the workshop will specifically focus on the editorial vision of JSIE and introduce members of the editorial board to Workshop participants.
  • Take a ‘deep dive’ into selected recent JSIE articles which have resonated strongly with JSIE editors and readers alike. Current JSIE Editors will present ‘Editors’ Picks’; that is, selected examples of recently published research which are grounded in practice and relevant for future JSIE authors.
  • Learn more about pitching an article to JSIE and workshopping an article pitch for JSIE. Participants will receive live, expert, interactive feedback from current JSIE Editors.
  • Engage in peer-learning and form meaningful connections with emerging and established researchers of international education as well as other research-focused and research-curious APAIE participants from around the world.

Target Audience

  • Research-focused and research-curious APAIE participants.
  • Participants of APAIE’s research stream (ie, those who have submitted research-focused papers for APAIE’s peer review process).
  • Emerging and established researchers of international education who are interested in pitching an article for JSIE; networking with and learning from JSIE’s Editors and meeting like-minded researchers.
